- John Patterson
John offers individual consultations and group classes in a range of mind body skills including:
- Yoga, Mindfulness and Meditation (using an inclusive, spiritual, interfaith, non-religious perspective)
- Meditative, mindful yoga is possible for everyone, regardless of physical limitations. Stretching and postures can be done on the floor or in a chair
- We use simple, present moment awareness of the breath, walking, eating, body sensations, thoughts, emotions and communication (listening and speaking)
- The stillness, peacefulness and healing of silence is honored and embraced
- Dance (emphasizing Argentine tango and waltz)
- Argentine tango is both passionate and meditative, sensual and mindful, a social interpersonal art and an interior intrapersonal art. Research is showing its many uses for psychological and physical conditions
- Waltz can be done alone or with a partner. Anyone can waltz, even those who think they have 2 left feet. You can waltz to music you already know and love, exploring joy and other emotions as you learn to waltz through life
- Argentine tango and waltz are not just fun. They can both be deeply healing. Our focus is on awareness of physical sensations, thoughts, emotions and attitudes. This awareness helps in social dancing and in personal healing
- Mind Body Skills Groups, offered in 2 formats:
- Weekly sessions over 4–8 weeks
- Intensive 1–2 day weekend retreats
Groups include the mind body skills listed above, as well as some of the following, depending on group members’ specific interests and needs.
- Drawings
- Biofeedback
- Autogenic training
- Imagery
- Music/Singing/Chanting
- Writing/Journaling
- Centering Prayer
- Massage (self and partner)
